I have a redface Echoplex EP-3 that's in the #9000s which I'm pretty sure is very early for the EP-3's. I've seen EP-2 Tube Echoplex's in the serial #8000 range so. Anyways, all of my 'plex's have been awesome sounding so I don't sweat the details. This particular unit is what some might call the holy grail of Echoplex's. It's a rare and sought after 'early version' or 'the first version' of the EP-3, with a serial #9370. EP-2 units stopped at #9067. 'The first version' EP3 units are said to bear serials #9068-9450 and have solid state circuit with EP-2 case and mechanics. I'm finally a proud owner of an Echoplex EP-3. It will need some work but things are going good so far. I'm a bit confused about the production date of my Echoplex. It seems to be some sort of transition model between the EP-3 and EP-4 as it already has the compressor board built in. As far as I know the compressor board came up in 1977.
