Gears of War is a video game franchise that debuted on November 9, 2006 with Gears of War for the Xbox 360 and was a best-seller. The fictional universe of the series takes place on the fictional planet Sera and focus on a war between humans and creatures known as Locust. The franchise has since spawned a novel and a comic book series, with a film currently in pre-production.

Gears of War was ported to PC on November 11, 2007. It includes new maps, as well as a Map Editor, which has the ability to make new missions. It was not ported to Vista as Halo 2 PC was, but rather to Windows XP instead. With DirectX 10, graphics are displayed at a higher quality compared to the original Xbox 360 release.
