The Issue of Serial Numbers and the PIX Trademark on the Montblanc pens
Mar 25, 2020 A genuine Montblanc Meisterstuck pen has a readily identifiable tip. It contains information on both the detail and craftsmanship of the pen. Often the handcrafted gold tip also has an ornate design on it. The top ring of the pen is etched with the Montblanc name along with a serial number. For instance, number one describes a slip-fit eyedropper, a number five is used for a lever-filler pen and seven is used for screw-cap eyedropper pens. Decipher the overlay and trim band configuration of the pen by reading the hundreds and thousands position, that is the third and fourth digit from the end of the serial number.
Nov 11, 2009 Serial #'s don't have a specified number of digits. Older models will most likly have fewer digits than current production. Some of the #'s started with GE or GER on the first pens to be produced with serial #'s in 1991. There is no database at Montblanc of serial #'s except for limited editions. A sequel to a video I did a while ago. The purpose of this video is NOT to promote the selling of counterfeit products, but to give potential buyers some clu. Today, the Montblanc is on other goods besides pens, including watches, jewellery, fragrances, leather goods and eyewear. The company was acquired by in 1977, following which lower price pens were dropped and the brand was used on a wide range of luxury goods other than pens.Today, Montblanc forms part of the group.

To make matters more complicated, Montblanc does reuse serial numbers (they are issued randomly with no discernable pattern), so two pens with the same serial number could still be genuine. It is likely that they would be different models and separated by many years in time, though.

Placing the PIX mark on the underside of the clip is the more common option in these pens; placing it on the cap band is a more recent thing (apparently some time in the mid 2000s) and only applicable to some pen models.
